The Forssa Textile Week workshops will take place from August 22nd to 24th at the Forssa Spinning Mill Area, in the facilities of Wahren College (Wahreninkatu 11) and the Forssa School of Visual Arts (Wahreninkatu 13).You can choose from a variety of textile techniques and learn from artist and textile professionals.

Friday 22.8.

Ieva Krumina: Transform Polyethylene Plastic Packaging into New Artworks (in English)

Ieva Krumina is a textile artist and professor of textile art at the Latvian Academy of Art. In her workshop, ordinary packaging plastic transforms into something extraordinary – the material will shimmer like gold or be woven into tapestry-like creations. The result is a completely new kind of artwork.

Please bring clean packaging plastic waste collected at home to use as material during the workshop.

Kadi Pajupuu: Multiweave — Completely New way of Weaving Fabric! (in English)

You might already know that in traditional weaving, warp and weft threads intersect in straight vertical and horizontal lines. But what if the weft could move diagonally, crosswise, or even loop around? The innovative Multiweave technique, developed by Estonian textile artist Kadi Pajupuu, opens up new possibilities for freeform and surprising weaving experiments. Maryliis Teinfeldt: Tufting — Make Your Own Punch-needle Textile! (in English)
Time: 9–15 (Lunch break 11:30–12:30)
Location: Forssa School of Visual Arts, Painting Studio (Wahreninkatu 13)
Price: €35 (+ €20 material fee, paid to the instructor on site)

Tufting, a technique originally developed for rug-making, has gained worldwide popularity as a method for creating textiles with a soft, raised surface. In this workshop, textile artist Maryliis Teinfeldt will guide you through the process of tufting your own piece on a 25 x 25 cm base. The finished work can be displayed as a wall piece or even worn as a brooch.

Anna Vasko: The Possibilities of Natural Dye Recipes (Suomeksi / in English)
Time: 9–12
Location: Wahren College, Handicraft Classroom (Wahreninkatu 11)

Since the Stone Age, fabrics and yarns have been dyed using materials found in nature. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of natural dye recipes and prepare dye baths under the guidance of natural dye expert Anna Vasko.

Sunday 24.8.

Piritta Mäkinen: Felting Workshop — Create a Small Bag or Laptop Sleeve from Finnish Wool (Suomeksi / in English)
Time: 14-17
Location: Wahren-opisto, Käsityöluokka (Wahreninkatu 11)
Price: 25€


In this workshop, you’ll use Finnish sheep’s wool to felt a small bag or a laptop sleeve. You can also felt a ball or a ring to use as a piece of jewelry or a decorative element. You’ll learn the basics of wet felting, including how to felt a three-dimensional item using a pattern, how to felt seams, and how to shape the piece through fulling. The workshop also introduces the use of pre-felt and leftover yarns to create surface textures. This course is suitable for both beginners and experienced felters – the most important thing is a willingness to experiment and a curiosity about wool.


Participants will be asked about their color preferences before the workshop.
